Give Thanks
26 November 2015
Happy Thanksgiving, all.
How can we all take the spirit of this holiday and make a real difference? I’ve got three ways for you:
- #CramTheAm this weekend
On Saturday, admission to UMD’s game against Harvard is free to all those who make a donation of a non-perishable food item to Northern Lakes Food Bank. There’s no reason not to attend! Got family in town? Bring them along. Out of town? Come back early and come to the game, Duluth is better than wherever you’re going. A sexist jerk who craps all over women’s hockey for no reason other than your own fragile gender identity? Get over yourself. Everyone can donate to a good cause and watch some great hockey!I’ve got my donation all ready!
- Visit Bentleyville this season
Take the tour of lights in Bayfront Park before or after a tUMD game this year. The Salvation Army will be there collecting toys and nonperishable food items to distribute to families in need in the Northland. It even has Count von Count!
- Make a From Top Shelf To Food Shelf pledge
Over the past two seasons, college hockey fans have raised $943 to fight hunger in their communities simply by pledging $/goal, $/save, food items/goal, a set dollar amount, or a more creative pledge (bonus $ for PPGs or SHGs, for example). There will be more information coming, but plan to make a pledge of your own if you can, the “event” is Dec 4/5.
There are dozens of other ways to help people in need, and if you are able, try to contribute. Turn that feeling of gratitude you have today into one of generosity and kindness.
